Prezi Prezi

We spent the day in my favorite borough, Prenzlauer Berg. It's characterized by its old buildings & beautiful surroundings, still central, yet quieter than Mitte. In the beginning of the nineties the district was still dominated by the bohemian Berlin youth. Nowadays it has welcomed a new middle-class generation in their thirties. A big wave of emigrants has also settled into the trendy area, with many local fashion designer & street-wear boutiques. The king street is definitely Kastanienallee, along with the bars of Kulturbrauerei.

We found one urban fashion store/gallery that first opened its door in the summer of 08. Since thne the shop, Le Gang, has offered its wonderful selections of street fashion to Berliners. Le Gang offers labels such as Insight, Sixpack France, Supreme Being & even CTRL. Not only clothing, but also toys and select mags & toys, as well as special editions of Nike sneakers. As soon as set your foot inside the store you enter a specially-created world, that encapsulates the philosophy behind "streetwear & gallery". The perfect place for anyone seeking something special.

It was time for ice-cream. We came across this brightly-coloured gelateria called Eislabor back in Raumstrasse. With scoops at 80 cents a piece, it was highly pleasant experience. They have perfected their texture into richly creamy, without crumbling into gummy-over-sugarly. Along with the friendly service, Eislabor is a must place to say hi to on a hot afternoon as today.

Now a small treat for music aficionados. The small big record store of OYE Records is hidden treasure in Prenzlauer Berg. You will find the best records between Brazil, Latin, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Nu Jazz, Reggae, Hip Hop, BreakBeatz, Drum'n'Bass, House & Techno, TechHouse, Nu Rave, New Boogie, Disco, ReEdits, Mashup/Bootlegs, Pop & Indie. The list is endless. Bought a record of the Los Charly's Orchestra, a house-funk-soul act from Venezuelan musicians.

Also functioning as an independent label in the Berlin scene, these guys have game. Get in here.

To finish the day, we took the U8 U-Bahn to Kottbusser Tor, more precisely to Adalbertstrasse 10. Here lies the mastermind behind the worldwide döner. It was invented in Berlin in 1971 by Mehmet Aygun who in the present has opened this successful kebab-restaurant called Hasir. And you thought doner was a Turkish invention? ..NOT. Hasir has a wide menu, yet as a beginner start with the classic doner or iskender, both priced at 9,5€. Now this was & is going to be our most luxurious meal of the trip. Worth every single penny. Never before tasted such a high-flavoured kebab, where you can actually taste every single aroma & ingredient in it. Friendly atmosphere & quality chow. For a kebab joint excellent sanitation facilities. Best kebab ever. The place on its own is just a reason to travel to Berlin. Remember to tip.
