Beautifulness + Character = Prague
A big hello from Prague, the imperial capital of Central-Europe. We arrived westerday from Berlin via Dresden by bus. The cosy bus trip lasted only some four and a half hours, emptying our wallets 26 €. We made some research back in Berlin, and came to the conclusion that there's no idea in buying the Interrail pass for three weeks (309€). The rail connections in countries like Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania & Montenegro are scarce & slow, so we ditched the whole all-you-can-rail card. Instead, we're using combinations of cheap trains & busses.
We came last night to the capital of Czech Republic, found this hostel just within spitting distance from the Old Town & headed out. Regular bars are cheap here. That is if you settle for beer. Drinks are pretty much the same price as in Finland, pilsner in the 1,5€ range. After some blitzkrieg-boozing in a nearby bar, we headed to this five-floor teenage-heaven recommended by some passers-by. Well, the experience could have been worse (if we weren't so hammered), but for our state of mind it was the perfect match. Five distinct floors serving different beats for all music tastes except good. There was also this girl who looked like Mickey Mouse with a moustache, she looked kind of funny. Besides that, the atmosphere was international, having girls from Holland, Brazil & Russia. This is an easy place.
Woke up 3pm from our shared room with this Bolivian-looking guy making throbbing noises up in his bed. Scary stuff. But that's the beauty of shared rooms, you meet all these crazy people, like these English football lads reading the intellectual biographee of Roy Keane.
The best thing in Prague is just simply walking. I've been here before like four years ago, and even back then I was of the same opinion as now: Prague is the the most gorgeous city in Europe to just walk by. The Old City, the historic centre of the capital, has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. No wonder Prague is one of the top-dog destinations in Europe. And even for those who don't like walking, theres are practical metro connections offered by three different lines: red, green & yellow. Take tram number 17 if you want to catch a quick but thorough view of the city & it its architecture. All the adorned buildings from different eras (Ancient, Charles IV, Habsburg) amaze you block after block, these guys have had an eye for detail for quite a while. Not only are the buildings dashing, but also the women. Swanky breasts. Long legs. Fancy faces. Keep that in mind when you plan your next trip to Central-Europe.
We had a presso for 30 Czech korunas (just a bit over 1€) in this antique-turned-vintage cafe called Duende (means elf in Portuguese). Standard coffee, but the place was awesome: it even had this archaic, wooden cigarette vending machine. So the afternoon flied while strolling around the streets and chilling out in some nice green parks, one mention Riegrovy Sady. Just before heading back to the hostel we bought local energy drinks & a bottle of vodka for 4 euros for us four. Oh jeah, forgot to mention, we're actually now (I'm writing wednesday afternoon) three. Only four of us came to prague, one of those left this morning, but he was still in the game last night with the vodka.
So the four us had a pre-party over at our place, & all high-spirited we moved to this cosy, nearby bar, which name for obvious reasons can't recall. Over at the urinals, this guy with a real-deal Czech-mullet comes by whistling Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band theme, and we started instantly throwing jokes about Ringo. Next thing, I'm buying 5g from the guy, for a friendly Central-European price of 8€/g. After a Czech beer tour involving Budvar, Chodovar & Pidovar (BEER IS GOOD IN HERE!) we headed to this club called Duplex. On the way we met these Prague girls on the street (no they weren't hookers). So we had a chat and persuaded them to come for a beer into the nearby bar. We had a nice time talking to some locals, which is the quintessential of trips like these. And its only a plus if they're chicks. Much to our surprise they spoke fluent English, so there was no need to caveman-like language. Our trip continued an hour later, and reached Duplex around 2am. Entry salty 5€ for a Tuesday night, and could honestly say it wasn't that good. The views were nice though, but found the place a bit pretentious & snob-like. Guys in alligator-polos & girls with fake Vuittons. Nuff said.
Beware in hostels around Europe of one thing. Respect the agreed check-out time, even if its as crappy as 11am. We woke up at 1pm checking out half an hour later, and got into some trouble. This nice-looking thirtyish receptionista turned into a furious beast when we turned over the keys a few hours late. But we managed, but don't push you're luck too far, or you'll end up paying extra.
So we're leaving tonight at 23.11 night train, arriving in Bratislava early morning. Night trains are handy, because it has two qualities. Transportation & accommodation. For 24€ both. Now writing in Club Cafe Vertigo on Havelska, just off a street market sale full of ornaments & deliquacies of Prague. So next to Slovakia, it's a damn beautiful sunny day in here, it's almost a shame to leave. Soon back on the road. Here's some pics of Prague. So it goes.
Hot day keeps even trucks busy chilling people
